Village Response Plan
The 30-day Village Response Plan was a culturally-responsive, community driven, grassroots plan designed to address violent attacks on young Pasifika youth in the Brimbank area in June 2020. The Village Response was a commitment to ensuring the safety and empowerment of our children, young people, families and communities.
Our Wrap Around Response and Community Approach Response strategies were premised on a strengths-based community approach prominent in Pasifika villages and engaged key community members that have strong connections with the affected community as well as those engaged on the peripheral (schools outside of catchment area, neighbouring communities) that needed immediate intervention.
The Village Response Plan was developed in partnership with Indigenography and Design, Fire in the Belly Consultants, Vasa Consultants and Mana Riko.
BF3 Roadshow
BF3 was a youth-led online roadshow designed to spread a message of hope and healing to empower young people to stand and be the positive change for the Brimbank community.
Community Engagement
The Village Response Plan highlighted the need to strengthen the engagement and relationships between grass-roots Pasifika communities and organisations with local and state government. This component developed a series of documents to support the bridging of this gap.
VRP Holiday Program
The intention of these Winter and Spring school holiday programs was to continue to build on the strength of the 30-day response plan, increasing the visibility and engagement of Pasifika young people in programs delivered by local community organisations.
This program engaged over 140 young people with programs delivered by Raw & Rugged Dance Ministry, Pacific Island Creative Arts Australia (PICAA), Measina Treasures of Samoa and Creative Minds Ministry.
Reintegration Pathway of Pasifika Young People
The development of the reintegration pathway for Pasifika young people was driven by the need to provide a more culturally responsive service to Pasifika young people entering into custody and support to reducing the recidivism rate for Pasifika young people.
